Drum Set Rescue
Affordable Drum Sets for Beginners

About Drum Set Rescue
Grant the Old
Rocker from DSRHi, I'm Grant; the old rocker who runs Drum Set Rescue (DSR). Assisted by my wife Karen, DSR is my non-profit retirement hobby aimed at providing refreshed or refurbished/customised drum sets for young NZ beginners at a reasonable price. (Based on their all-up cost price. We make no profit from this hobby.)

We often travel around on rescue missons for purchased or donated drums and various associated hardware parts. You'd be surprised at what we can fit into a small car!  We love to save neglected, unwanted, or unloved drums and give them a new life with a keen beginner.

All our project drum sets come complete! They are solid and attractive, Ready-to-Play drum sets. (Unlike many of the sets we see advertised as "complete".)

Mostly our refreshed or refurbished sets are very low priced (in comparison with others that are sold online) and for the most part they are aimed at young beginner drummers; helping them to make a start with a drum kit they can set up (we include a setup guide) and play at once! Occasionally though, we acquire some better quality sets, which get the same DSR treatment, and become ideal for those who are well into their drumming and ready for an upgrade to their 1st budget set. Still for a great price. See some of our past projects on our DSR gallery.

DSR Project Descriptions

"Refreshed" This is where the drum wraps or lacquer finish are in what I consider to be an acceptable condition. They will generally have been partially stripped and cleaned before reassembly with (if needed) new, near new, or good used parts wherever appropriate.

"Refurbished" These drums have been completely stripped down to bare shells. The lugs, rods, mounts, hoops, etc., have all been soaked, polished, and waxed. The drum shells have been re-wrapped in vinyl before being reassembled as a customised drum set - again using new, near new, or good used parts wherever appropriate.

"Restoration" While some of our refreshments and refurbishments are indeed pretty darned nice, we'd never never consider them to be retored to original as we often use modern alternative parts on them in places.

This yellow Sonor set is an example of a vinyl re-wrap.
They originally had a very worn out gold plastic wrap.

Drum Set Rescue Facebook Page or Contact Us By Phone/Text
If you're looking for an affordable drum set for a beginner drummer, we strongly suggest that you follow us on our Drum Set Rescue Facebook Page and contact us - either when you see something you like, or if you'd like to go onto the priority list for one of our very popular project sets. (Remember, they're bargains and usually sell very fast!)

Or, you can contact us personally by phone or text message to see what's currently available, or in progress undergoing refreshment or refurbishment.

In-progress project drum sets are often highlighted on the Drum Set Rescue Facebook Page to give followers and prospective buyers an early chance to see what's coming up.

Completed project drum sets, that are not already spoken for, are initially offered for sale on the Drum Set Rescue Facebook Page, so that our New Zealand followers can have an early opportunity to buy for the bargain price. Soon after, they are listed under Drum Sets For Sale on Facebook Marketplace. Proceeds from any sale help to fund new projects, and sometimes allow us to donate drum sets to local schools.
